Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) is an industry-specific training scheme launched by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) in 2015. It provides vocational training to unemployed youth and school dropouts as per international corporate standards.

Affiliate programs under PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana offer cost-free training courses to create an employable workforce. Subsequently, the beneficiaries obtain a Skill India card and a certificate from Sector Skill Council (SSC) and are employed across sectors.

PMKVY courses have certain eligibility criteria and already benefited around 10 million youth between 2016 and 2020.

1. Possess OVD for KYC, and.
2. Be unemployed or a school/college dropout.

Training Programs under PMKVY

Central or state government affiliate programs offer –

• Short Term Training (STT) –

Following the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), beneficiaries can opt for courses in entrepreneurship, financial and digital literacy for 150-300 hours.

• Recognition to Prior Learning –

Candidates with existing knowledge and skills are tested and certified. Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs) further enhance the skills.

• Special projects –

Individuals can benefit from training according to special job titles respective to government, industrial or corporate organizations. Job roles not specified under National Occupational Standards are also included.

PMKVY courses also impart proper work ethics, grooming, and soft skills for professional competence.
